THE MOSAIC COURSE

The Mosaic Course is an online learning platform which explores the foundational belief systems and practices of six major living religions in the world from a Christian perspective. Each module features a series of audiovisual presentations, reflection questions, practical exercises and downloadable resources.

M1. THE ONLY WAY TO GOD

An introduction to Religious Pluralism, Universalism, Exclusivism, and the claim of exclusivity in ALL major world religions. A "redemptive" approach to establish the Christian claim that Jesus is the only way to God by exploring the concept of the "unknown god" (Acts 17:25) in other religions.

M2. UNDERSTANDING ISLAM

The origin and cultural evolution of Islam, with a special emphasis on the life and teachings of prophet Muhammad. How Jesus Christ is revealed in the Quran as a prophet born of a virgin, a "sinless" human being  and the Messiah who is going to comeback at the end of this age.

M3. UNDERSTANDING HINDUISM

The role of Hinduism as the mother of all Eastern religions. The Hindu worldview and belief system: the law of karma, reincarnation theory, the practice of yoga etc. How Jesus is perceived as an avatar (an incarnation of God) and as a yogi (one who achieved union with the universal soul) in Hinduism.

M4. UNDERSTANDING SIKHISM

Sikhism as a hybrid religion that evolved out of the theology of Islam and the cosmology of Hinduism. How Jesus is perceived as a sant (saint) in Sikhism, and how the Sikh concept of the Word (shabad) becoming the Lord (Guru) is reflected in the Christian idea of the Word (logos) becoming flesh.

M5. UNDERSTANDING BUDDHISM

The story of Buddha and the philosophy of Buddhism:  " the four noble truths," "the middle way," and "the theory of emptiness." How Jesus is considered a Bodhisattva who comes down from the realm of nirvana to help others achieve enlightenment.

M6. UNDERSTANDING JUDAISM

The belief system and practices of contemporary (Rabbinic) Judaism as opposed to Biblical (Priestly) Judaism. How Jesus is claimed to be the Messiah who is both a triumphant king and a suffering servant in the Hebrew scriptures.

M7. WHAT IS SO GOOD ABOUT THE GOOD NEWS?

The uniqueness of the Christian Gospel in contrast to the messages of other world religions, as it (1) redefines religion in terms of relationship (2) focuses on God's search for (hu)man instead of (hu)man search for God and (3) replaces the law of karma with the theology of grace.

BONUS. UNDERSTANDING SECULARISM

Secular humanism manifests in our society as a religion with a wide spectrum of belief systems, ranging from atheism to agnosticism. We explore common grounds between Christianity and secularism to communicate the gospel to “nones” – people with no religious affiliations.
